What’s inside Bladder 101?

Module 1 – Bladder Function & Dysfunction

This first module will set you up for success by making sure you understand the anatomy and the related vocabulary. We’ll then be on the same page and you’ll understand the language. I also want you to know how the bladder is supposed to work and what can go wrong. This may seem like a lot more information that you need BUT it helps create clarity about what else can impact bladder function (HINT: there are lots of medical conditions that can cause bladder symptoms)

Highlights

$

Be able to name the parts of the urinary tract and female pelvis

These aren’t words that you use every day. Understanding this vocabulary will make you more confident when you are talking to your provider about your bladder issues (or to anyone!)

$

Know where the pelvic floor muscles are in your body and how to find them

There’s a lot of talk about kegels and the pelvic floor muscles but many of us aren’t sure where they are or how to get them to work!

$

Understand what nerves are needed to keep the bladder working well and what nerve problems can cause bladder problems

The innervation to the bladder is fairly complex and there are many health issues that can impact these nerves- everything from diabetes to multiple sclerosis to back pain.
$

Understand the different types of bladder leaking and what causes each type of dysfunction

The different types of bladder leaking all have different causes and different treatments. Understanding the difference helps you pick the right solutions!

Module 2 – Self-diagnosis and Limitations

Different types of bladder leakage are treated in different ways. This means you have to know WHY you are leaking to know what treatments will work for you.

Fixing your leaking can take a lot of work, you also have to be pretty honest with yourself about what you have time for and what you are willing to do!

Highlights

$

Identify what type of leaking you have

Knowing why you leak will help you pick the right solution!
$

Understand your triggers

Our habits- what we eat, what we drink, how we exercise- can all impact your bladder. Do you know what makes your bladder act up?
$

Understand what other medical conditions may impact your bladder

Your medical problems, the surgeries you have had, the medications that you take- all of these things can impact how your bladder acts
$

Determine the available time you have

Having a good grasp on how much time you have and WHAT available time you have will set you up for success when you are picking a solution.
$

Determine your treatment blueprint

To pick the best solution for you, you have to identify your treatment blueprint. This includes identifying factors like whether you need a coach or whether you want to do it all on your own!

Module 3 – Treatments

Once you know what kind of leaking you have and what you need (or need to avoid) to make the treatment a success for you, you’re ready to start reviewing all the potential solutions.

In this module, the treatments are broken down by type of leaking. I’ve also created a key so you can easily see if the treatment meets your success criteria!

Highlights

$

Understand overall lifestyle improvements that help incontinence

There are many lifestyle factors that you can modify to help your leaking (and often your overall health)
$

Be aware of all the treatment options for a specific type of leakage

I think it is important for you to hear about ALL of the options so that you can pick the best one for you!
$

See how each treatment meets your treatment blueprint

You’ve identified what is important to you when looking for a solution. I’ve created a key to help you evaluate all the treatments with your blueprint and a decision guide to help you pick a method to strengthen your pelvic floor.

FAQ’s

I’ve tried talking to my provider about my leaking and don’t feel like I’ve gotten anywhere. Will this course help me?

This happens sometimes. I’ll help you clearly communicate your bladder problems in a way that would be hard to ignore. I’ll also help you find resources to locate bladder specialists in your area.

My leaking is making me bananas but I don’t have time to do anything. Can you help?
I think this is where online courses really shine! You’ll have the material and can go over it in a time frame that suits you. And you’ll need to focus on treatments that don’t have a huge time factor- that will be part of your success criteria!
I keep seeing things cross my feed that promise they treat leaking. Can’t I just buy it?
You can. But there isn’t one treatment that fixes all leaking. I see women all the time who have a drawer full of treatments they’ve barely used. Identifying your success criteria helps you to pick a treatment that suits you and not make an impulse buy (even if they are hard to resist).
I’ve tried doing kegels but they don’t work. Can you help me?
Strengthening the pelvic floor can help with different types of bladder leaking. There are lots of reasons why this may not have worked for you. You need to take the time to identify your success criteria. You may need more biofeedback or even coaching to help you. I’ll help you identify your personal success criteria to optimize your success!
So many of the treatments seem expensive. What can I do?
I think out-of-pocket expenses are an important consideration when you are looking at treatments. Cost will factor into your success criteria and you can use this to pick the option that works for you!
